Of the many attempts to pen a fantasy series that doesn't involve an orphan with totally obvious lineage who has been chosen for a very specific destiny, Prince of Thorns makes a decent stab at it by going for an antihero. I have read the first and am halfway through the second. The main reason I picked up Prince of Thorns was because I heard it was getting such mixed reviews. Mark Lawrence's debut novel Prince of Thorns created quite a stir when it was released last year. Readers either love it or loathe it, and some were getting quite vocal about hating it. The author's project is a trilogy named The Broken Empire.
